As I left work this evening I realized that I hadn't taken a single photo yet today. Coming out of the metro I saw the Capitol and noticed the light on above the dome. I thought, "Congress is still in session?" The light is on at night (maybe all day) when Congress is in session, as in actually meeting or working to take a vote. Usually it burns late just before recesses as major legislation finally comes up for a full vote. In September and October, it often burns past midnight as Congress tries to pass the budget or hammer out a continuing resolution. Reminds me of the federal government shut down in Newt Gingrich's glory days. My friends and I saw him taking a break for dinner with his wife at a local watering hole. He was NOT happy to be recognized. I got an icy glare from him. After his fall from power I ran into him carrying his clothes to the dry cleaner--a bundle of pants, jacket and dress shirts in his arms! I do wish I was doing PAD then.
Well, tonight the light is on because it's the President's State of the Union address. (From the helicopter still buzzing overhead, I'd guess he's still there.) So this seems a fitting shot.
