Union Station ceiling (I'm sure there's an architectural term for this kind of work) in front of B. Smith's, a Southern-style restaurant with NYC prices. I've not eaten there.

Thank you all. I need to shot more of this city's architecture. I also need more free time during daylight hours to do it!

You're right, there is a specific term for this - but I can't remember what it is!! it's beautiful, anyway!

Very nice! I love architecture!
Elizabeth Glass22-Jan-2004 19:57
Whoa. They don't build them like that anymore. Nice!

I agree Linda. It's really nice that when Union Station was renovated they chose to go for broke and do it right. Eventually I'll get over to the Library of Congress. The Jefferson building was built with the idea that it should be a marvel in itself and it is. I used it for a portrait backdrop for a friend's childrens' portraits, once. No actually twice, once outside and once on the marble floors near a large window.

Wow this is wonderful. I too love this sort of decorative architecture - it says to me 'I don't care how much more it costs to put up this fancy ceiling, I'm going to do it because I like it'. When did we lose that ability to think 'hang the cost, let's go for beauty?'

Upon opening this I immediatly thought of Union Station. I remember when they were applying the gold inlay in some areas of the station. This is such a beautiful shot of such a historic building. Thank you.
