SHOCKING Surprise of Today 8-21-24

Goodbye Old Friend

I got up his morning to find this had happened in our kitchen.
My husband has quickly moved on to starting to tear up our old kitchen floor. I've always loved this floor and am going to miss it.

Obviously, as seen above, something will now have to replace the original floor. No ifs or maybes. No just a repair until the frig. There is now no going back, My husband is excited about the idea of a new, trendier floor. I'm not quite as enthusiast about the change. However, if a floor change was going to happen, that did need to be done before the frig (that got pulled out yesterday) can be replaced. Many of the newer style floors damage fairly easily. Refrigerator moving is one thing that can damage them. So now, it's floor first, refrigerator second. I hope the old frig that started us on this path lasts as long as it takes to pick out and install a new floor. Currently, it still is cooling probably & only leaking water.

Hopefully, the countertops don't have to be done before the floor because we have absolutely nothing in mind yet for a countertop. It will take some time just to decide on something. I sure hope we're not stuck on this project in 2025!!! There are so many parts that have to fit together. It probably would be a lot easier if I painted everything white because then, any of the current trends would automatically match. But going against the current trends, I absolutely refuse to change my traditional, natural stained, solid cherry cabinets! I don't care what's in fashion and what's not. Saying goodbye to the floor that I loved is enough!!! The cabinets are staying as they are. Five years from now, they may be back in vogue. And if not five years, then, fifteen. But even if they're not, I still refuse to part with these very high-end cabinets that I custom designed and had made just for us.

Meanwhile, demolition is under way. We will definitely be making some major changes during this makeover. Unfortunately, those changes haven't yet been fully planned out. My tastes are different than the current trends. That alone could make this project a lot longer than I want. When we first moved here, I already had everything that I wanted picked out and purchased. So, moving on to installation could immediately start back then. The really slow part last time was that my husband had to do the installation of everything himself, except for the cabinets and the floor. Today, I don't have anything yet picked out to replace the things that we'll be replacing. Even so, my husband currently has gotten underway in removing the old anyhow. That's a bit scary. This is only the beginning.

A messy start, but promising home improvement project.

Well, I hope you don't have to live with that for long!
