My Husband Did It. 5-22-24

By Himself

In preparation to installing a new 3 column, natural basalt stone water feature in our front courtyard.

*********
He may now be an older gentleman, but he certainly is still handy and quite talented.
By career, he was a top company executive (office job). Quite a bit older than me, he just retired at the end of 2023. Meanwhile, he has ALWAYS loved doing stuff like above for personal enjoyment.

When we first moved here, I created the landscaping plans. He did all of the work. Back then, our 3 acres had nothing but dirt and prairie grass. My husband planted every single tree and bush himself. He now still takes care of all (mowing, trimming, cleaning up, etc) without help. His midlife "toy" to himself was a backhoe, and he continues to use it a lot for different projects. He's amazing in all the different things he can do. One might say that is a-jack-of-all-trades from building things from scratch to maintaining our home inside and out. His project last Winter was building me a new plant area in front of the living room window.

After finishing the installation of the new water feature in our courtyard, he will probably be retiling (as soon as I can decide on a tile) the floor of our huge, master bathroom. He's done a lot of tile work in the past, including the recent new living room plant area. Plus, when we first moved here, he installed all of the other tile in our custom built house, which included our kitchen, baths, foyer, etc. And he did the same at our first home, too. But back then, he was replacing what the building had put in a track home. So, there was the extra step of removing the old before putting in the new.

Yes, I'm proud of my darling hubby. He dug the above hole by hand, and it is perfect in size and level for the fountain catch basin. He's a perfectionist in his work and does things right. Next, will come actually installing the fountain with the plumbing and new electrical outlets.

Your hubby did a great job here and is an excellent gardener going by all the images you post of your land, Liz.V

A solid base to build on, looks like you have a lot of clay out there, be careful of the heat

Wow, that looks like a lot of work! You're lucky your husband could do it all himself.

That is an impressive dig, so straight-sided too. I'd never be able to do that.
