Let's Landscape Again 2024-2027

Time for a Change

Thirty years ago when I was in my 20's & we custom built our home, I did ALL the original landscape design. My husband did ALL his own labor. Years passed. Time and weather damage together eventually said that it is time to redo major parts of our front yard. I didn't want to do all the plant research again nor learn to use a CAD in Photoshop. Outsourcing was our other option. So, we decided to hire a landscape company. Although it mainly deals in corporate projects, the company my husband found - and signed a contract with - has an excellent reputation. Since all plants are the same to him, he needs my eye to work with them. Project completion has been promised to be no later than this fall of 2024. I now look forward to our new front yard landscaping.

We are also remodeling our kitchen at the same time.

Update: 2026
After two years of slow and incomplete landscape company work - and far too many headaches to count - we have separated from the first company. Although I did manage to coax out parts of 3 of the 9 areas that we contracted to be done, the entire foundation design has not yet been started. This has been a long and draining 2 years... We are now doing 3 of the areas ourselves with the remaining 3 still left for the professionals.

Our kitchen project, however, went extremely smoothly and was done very well in the Fall of 2024 as projected. Unfortunately, this landscaping project (with more bumps in the road than ever imagined) looks like it will now run into 2027. Who would have imagined? I sure didn't back in early 2024.

Update: Late 2026
Due to scheduling, the new landscaping company couldn't take over this year from the incomplete job left by the one we had hired in Spring 2024. So, this (what was supposed to take less than one year) project will be headed in its 4th year next Spring. We're also in dispute about 2025 warranty work from company #1: a company that has been good at side stepping responsibility ever since we initially hired them Spring 2024. Meanwhile, our DYI phase did make some progress during 2026. fortunately, some things did move forward in 2026. Hurray!!! Thank goodness, for every small step closer to an end point. We'll now have to see what happens in 2027 & if our landscaping project can ever really be finished by the new company. I hope!!! All was not supposed to be such a difficult journey. But here we are anyhow.
