Without predators around to harm them, wild Takahes seem to take no notice of humans.` This lucky couple had a front row seat to a grazing Takahe just doing his thing.
Unfortunately, this same lack of concern around mammals (plus an inability to fly) make the Takahe an easy victim for predators. This is why predator-free islands like Tiritiri are necessary for their survival.
