7:30 AM

7:30 AM. While changing lenses during my shoot of the mist on the east side of the South Tufa field, I noticed that the sun had already risen onto the Sierras to the west! I hurried back to the west side of the Tufa field, to the same dead bush on the shoreline I had shot 15 minutes earlier. This image is composed almost identically, but has a distinctly different feel in the richer light of the dawn. What an incredible difference 15 minutes makes in the lighting and mood of a photograph! I'm not sure which of the two I like best, but the contrast here is more striking; the Sierras and the moon, the cold water and rocks, the warm sunrise - the setup is marvelous for this shot. Bracketed exposures two stops apart were combined here to optimize the dynamic range. 1/4 sec, f/13.

What a difference, quarter of an hour makes, the lighting has changed so dramatically, like this one too though

Brian, this is a wonderful gallery. When comparing this image with your second with the same composition what a difference 15 minutes can make. Having both will illustrate the changing light values and how quickly these can change but, this is the better image. Thanks for showing both.
