6:11 PM. When the shadow of the earth first starts to creep up into the sky, the quality of the light is absolutely magical at Mono Lake. For a moment, the world is a ghostly pastel wonderland, with the deathly white tufas against the pastel pinks and blues of the lingering evening. One photographer at the lake this evening came only for the 15 minute period around this moment, and left thereafter. While the pinks in the sky were not as strong or enveloping as I had hoped, this still ranks among my favorite images of this trip,
with the subtle colors and earie quality of the water adding to the atmosphere of the image. 3 sec, f/16.
