This shot was such a good example of the beautiful plumage of the Ruby-throated hummer. This is an adult female Ruby. While it is not an unusual pose, I thought it showed off the complete plumage from head to tail rather nicely. The female Ruby tail is moderately notched to double-rounded, extending well beyond the wingtips with varible white tips. If you look closely, you can see the tip of her tongue (which is forked) just peeking out of the end of his beak.
