Over the past twenty years I’ve had the privilege to visit the Rijks Museum in Amsterdam several times. Aside from the star attraction, the Night Watch by Rembrandt, the most striking thing about the gallery was the collection of gorgeous still life paintings. These images typically feature food or flowers with brilliant lighting and highly reflective surfaces against dark, austere backgrounds. Over the course of this year I hope to inch towards reproducing similar type images with my camera. Please be patient though, it will take a while as I develop my technique.
