Bristlecone Pine found near timberline (above 11,000)in Colorado. As the wood is very resistant to rotting these trees are often still standing for hundreds of years after they die. Many of the live trees are mistakenly though dead as they can require only as little as several inches of live bark on one side to keep it alive and individual needles are known to live as long as 25-30 years.
