16th - "The Silver Darlings"

Cheltenham, Glos.

(Neil Gunn's seminal novel about a young man's adventures in the heyday of the Sutherland herring industry)

I discovered Neil Gunn and other novelists of the Scottish Renaissance at University; casually leafing through a copy of 'Butcher's Broom' I was immediately struck by the glorious prose and characterisations. 'The Silver Darlings' is Gunn's most well-known novel (and well worth a read if you can get your hands on a copy) but he was a prolific writer and published over twenty-seven novels and short-story collections between 1926 and 1956, as well as being a recognised man of letters

This was one easy-peasy - file opened into ACR, Clarity enhanced to around 70%. Into CS3, I added a Curve adjustment layer to bring out the contrasts and Dodged and Burned the highlights and shadows. Lastly, resized for the web

Are you taking the piscine? This is great, a fin perspective and lots of fin detail. It must be a worthwhile read, a good tail.. Eye enjoyed looking... On a scale of 1-10 I'll give it a skate... Ok enough!!! :-)
Guest 16-Jan-2010 10:14
