17th-century church of 's-Heerenhoek

Arnhem, Arnheim

There is an impressive organ on the balcony of this 17th-century hall church. At least, it seems
at first sight. But appearances are deceptive. Because the Protestant congregation of 's-Heerenhoek
has no money for a real organ. That is why a second-hand Vocalion was purchased in 1902.
And an artful fake pipe front is placed there. A Vocalion sounds almost the same as an organ,
so it seems that schoolmaster Pols accompanies the psalms on a real organ. Men and women are
separated during the service. The men in the benches along the side walls, the women in the seats
in the middle. The year of construction of the pulpit is carved in the back panel: 1674.
The atmosphere of the interior is that of the beginning of the 20th century.
Placed here in 1988. Interior: around 1900.
