In the Middle Ages, trees were still sawn into planks by two men with a large saw.
But around 1600 this type of sawmill is created. The mill drives saws that turn logs from
5 to 6 meters into a large pile of planks at once. If the wind cooperates a little,
80 trunks per day. If you put all the boards behind each other, you can easily reach
a few kilometers. It is no coincidence that the mill stands by the water - wood is supplied
over water and must also be kept wet for sawing. The mills in the 17th and 18th centuries
are therefore mainly in the wetland west. The oldest parts of this mill date from around 1690.
Originally it is near Dordrecht, but in 1854 it moves to Numansdorp.
