Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge - 12/07/2013 - 75th Anniversary

Today the WNR celebrated our 75th Anniversary in existence providing a safe place for all wildlife to rest, breed, feed, and live without being totally eliminated from this earth. The movement was started by Teddy Roosevelt and what better way of celebrating was to have his memory to be here along with the memory with that of the first Director Tom Atkeson who began this Refuge on July 7, 1938 by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Even though the day was rainy, cold, overcast,and foggy......the day was filled with memories, laughter, the family of Tom Atkeson, retired USFW personnel, the general public and plenty of wildlife to observe.
