A typical photo of a "treerodent" (as some high North City Yankees call them), but down here we call them Southern Gray Squirrels. Interesting point about this young fella, 45 years ago when the lake was formed the squirrels in this area had almost been hunted out. So, Dad having a fondess of them (except when "cutting" the green pecans or gathering seasoned pecans for only themselves) would live-trap the little theives and would transport them to BeauxPoint for release. (Of course, the neighborhood in town enjoyed this practice since for generations it had been our family's practice to shoot them in town with a shotgun thus wakening up many a late sleeper in the early A.M.) Now there is an abundance here of these comical rascals to devise clever raids on the Winter bird feeders and the chipmonks stashes of acorns and hickory nuts.
