Josef Lang (born 1855) was the last executioner of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, serving until 1918 and carrying out 39 death sentences before retiring in 1921.

Despite the despised nature of his profession, he enjoyed high social standing and later worked as a janitor. He became famous for his humane treatment and even played a role in Karl Kraus's "The Last Days of Mankind." His nephew, Johann Lang, later became an executioner in the corporatist state and died in Dachau concentration camp.

Er ist berühmt geworden, weil er als „human“ galt und sogar eine Rolle in Karl Kraus' „Die letzten Tage der Menschheit“ spielte. Sein Neffe, Johann Lang, wurde später Scharfrichter im Ständestaat und fiel im KZ Dachau.
