St. Simons Island, Georgia, United States, Feb. 2, 2008

I grew up in Georgia and never saw a sundog there until this one when, after living in Alaska for almost 30 years, I visited my mother who was slowly dying. Note that there are "two" sundogs to the left of the sun and one equidistant to the right. I've seen many "doubles" in Alaska, but I don't remember seeing a "triple" like this before. Because sundogs depend on ice crystals in the atmosphere, the double sundog on the left is only due to a gap in the ice crystal clouds. Nevertheless, the date, the kind of sundog, the place, the people I was with, and the reason I was there all had significant meaning for me which I can't share. I'm sorry. I wish I could.
