Rhine, Riesling, Roses, Romance!

The Upper Rhine Valley, with UNESCO World Heritage listing must surely be one of the loveliest places in Germany. We were incredibly fortunate to spend 4 blissful days in this area, with summer sun and blue skies and in a superb apartment www.3castleview.de perched high above the beautiful river. This was made possible by two dear pbase friends, Tom LeRoy and his wife Hannah. I have long admired Tom's work on pbase and we owe him and Hannah so many thanks for the arrangements they made to join then on our last European adventure.

Fairytale villages are strung along the winding shoreline or straggle up the rocky slopes, straight lines of vines are patch-worked in any available space, blessed by sunshine almost all day and the small bars and cellars of wine producers large and small are to be found everywhere as they have been for centuries.

We also took a train journey along part of the Mosel River, to the interesting city of Trier with its enormous cathedral. We know we did not see enough of that city. Another place of quiet charm was the little village of Patersberg, up behind 3 Castle View. We enjoyed a walk there.
