This castle, built on a rocky island, near the village of Kaub and opposite the famous Lorelei Rock, dates from the 14th C. Resembling a ship, it was built by Ludwig the Bavarian in 1325 to levy tolls on Rhine shipping. The gun bastions are 17th additions. A ferry now takes visitors there.
