Between 1999-2000, I relocated the old Justus Cemetery on the right hand fork of Guesses Fork through research and interviews with older members of the local Justus family. In 2000, I ordered a new military marker for James R. Justus who was killed during the Civil War. The new marker was placed in the fall of 2000 by several members of the Justus family. As no road or trail exists to the cemetery, the new stone had to be taken by truck to a point about 200 yards above the cemetery and then lowered with ropes and a sled down the mountain. Over the past few years I have directed several other Justus family researchers to this site.
