Knocknarea (327 metres high) along with Ben Bulben dominates the skyline of Sligo and is well known for its huge flat topped cairn which is believed to be the resting place of the legendary Queen Maeve. Behind the beach is Lissadell House which was the former home of the Gore Booth family and a popular visiting place for the famous Irish poet WB Yeats. I am lucky enough to live just around the corner from here and the beach is always a good go to spot for images.
