I followed Jerry Schad's description of this walk with some minor modifications. I hiked up the shallow canyon just north of the canyon that heads west and contains the Morteros and Mortero Palms. The walking was easier as there is a distinct use trail. I returned by descending into the canyon that contains the Morteros. Schad's description is a little misleading. You have to descend the rough Goat Canyon for 500 feet in order to see Goat Trestle. The walk is a wonderful desert experience through gardens of cacti with amazing views of the desert to the east.
