Jim and I drove out to Mortero Palms in Anza Borrego State Park to bring in the New Year. There was already a group of people camped at the trailhead, so we camped at a pull out beforehand with a splendid view over the desert to the east.

We had bought a 6 foot x 5 foot x 2 inch piece of foam from UFO for Jim to lie in comfort. He is in chronic pain and has to lie down for 20-23 hours a day and be on narcotics and a cocktail of nerve pain medications to get out of bed. Although it was hard to accept, he stated that the roof of the tent was a nice change from the ceiling of the bedroom.

I did two walks from the campground while Jim slept and rested on the new pad at camp. The first was from Mortero Palms to the Goat Trestle viewpoint and the second was up Jacumba Peak.
