The Mainmast of the Brigantine "Exy Johnson"

Here Running Rigging, Standing Rigging and Ratlines can be clearly seen.
Running rigging is the rigging of a sailing vessel that is used for raising, lowering and controlling the sails.
Standing rigging does not move and is under tension to support the mast and other spars.
Ratlines are used for the crew to ascend and descend the masts.

It has always amazed me that sailors mastered the use and upkeep on ships like this at sea. This photo really brings this idea home.
