view map

Mount San Miguel

As seen from Mount Helix, at a distance of about 6 miles. The mountain burned completely in the wildfires of 2007.
Most of the TV and Radio Towers for the San Diego area are on top of the mountain, so there was no reception for several days after the fire.
The Witch (Creek Fire) burned 197,990 acres (801 km2) and destroyed 1040 homes, 414 outbuildings and 239 vehicles. Two died and 41 were injured.
Wildfires burn very quickly uphill, but slowly downhill, so we could see the fire burning for hours in the night as it slowly made its way down the west face of the mountain.
In the background on the right Tijuana, Baja California can be seen faintly at a distance of about 16 miles. On the left Tecate Peak, also in Mexico is about 22 miles away.

Eine fantastische Aussicht. Das Feuer muss ein grosses Spektakel gewesen sein, wenn auch ein sehr trauriges. v

Very sobering image. There are far too many man-made wildfires.
