My mother, Ina (originally Sabina) Szuldiner, was born and raised in Warsaw. She and my father met on a blind date in December 1937, fixed-up by my mother’s friend, Ruth, who was married to Marek, my father’s younger brother. My mother said it was love at first sight. They saw each other constantly during my father’s four-week stay in Warsaw and by the time my father left to return to Vienna, they were engaged. This photo was taken by an itinerant photographer in a café, on their first date in December 1937.
