101224_123742_13260 A Bit Of Perspective (Fri 24 Dec 10)

Old Melbourne Gaol (Jail), Russell Street Melbourne VIC

The goal for the gaol was, allegedly, to "straighten out" those who have chosen a crooked path in life.

I don't think that the architects of the gaol consciously planned the perspective that I spotted when I took this shot; it was merely a case of form following function. However... standing here and looking down at nothing but iron and stone, and seeing that as the only thing in your future for however long you have to serve... I imagine that it would have some impact on anyone who was unfortunate enough to be imprisoned with an imagination.

The gallows and the lashing triangle at the far end probably don't help matters either.
