But apparently the location of this one, in the Palazzo della Signoria of Firenze, is where the original once stood. It was moved to the Accademia Galleria in 1873, and this copy was erected in 1910 though I've no idea who created it.
Probably not Michelangelo himself, though.
Annoyingly we didn't get to see the original. A tip if you are visiting Firenze; book entrance to the Uffizi and the Accademia many, many weeks in advance. Yes, you can just rock up when you get there and spend a couple of hours in queues. Or you can book in advance. But iof you book only a couple of weeks in advance (as we did), and if you have very limited time in the city (as we did) ... you are likely to find that it is flat out impossible to get bookings to both galleries at times that will fit you.
Because of that we ended up having to choose, and chose the Uffizi over the Accademia.
That wasn't this day, though; that was when we would return to Firenze a couple of weeks later. This shot was taken on our day trip on the package tour.
At least we got to see the replica. I'm sure it's quite good. But it's not quite the same as standing in front of the actual marble that Michelangelo choose and sculpted with his own hands. (That would not happen until the 2019 trip, though I didn't know that at the time.)
