Piazza della Signoria, Firenze, Toscana, Italia

Some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue. Cosimo I, part of the famous Medici extended family and Duke of Florence and later Grand Duke of Tuscany, only gets to be the latter these days what with him having died in 1574.

This monument to him was erected by his 5th son and heir once removed Ferdinando I. (Cosimo was followed by Ferdinando's older brother Francesco I, who died without leaving (living) legitimate offspring. Cosimo and Francesco were both {bleep}holes despite being valuable patrons of the arts; indeed it was Cosimo who established the famous Uffizi galleries. In contrast, by all accounts Ferdinando was a good and just ruler.)

The bronze statue was erected in the Palazzo della Signoria 20 years after Cosimo's death; which is to say in 1594.
