A view from my hotel balcony. The hotel is the Palazzo Caracciolo M Gallery on Via Carbonara, and we are looking down the road which runs south east in the approximate direction of Mt Vesuvius.

The contrasts of Napoli are striking. Older, run-down buildings with one or two freshly renovated ones. A jumble of 20th century antennas on 18th and 19th century buildings. In the distance, new skyscrapers. (Yes, I know that that point has been made abundantly in this gallery, but this was the first shot of Napoli that I processed and wrote a commentary for some 3 years before typing this, and at the time the point had yet to be made.)

And let's all try to forget that that big, mist-shrouded thing over on the right is an active volcano that has already obliterated a city or two on the Bay Of Naples over the last couple of thousand years.
