Napoleon is reputed to have called the Piazza San Marco "the drawing room of Europe". We were there after an evening trip to a small restaurant in a back alley, followed by some time to listen to some live music in the square.

Whether Napoleon made the comment or not, it seemed appropriate at that moment.
