Everything is relative. From reading Cook's biography a few years back (stopping a week or so before he was killed; that part I didn't want to know about) I recall that when he was apprenticed to a haberdasher his "bed" was a space under the shop counter. In all likelihood even that would probably have seemed luxurious to some working class people of the time, and a bed like this would have been unimagined luxury that they could never hope to aspire to.

Even so I'd have to say that I'm glad I'll be going to my own bed tonight rather than this one.
