This wood and hemp rope sculpture is by New Caledonian sculptor Mathieu Venon.
The statement merely says that Venon melts "his European sensitivity to the Oceanian art forms".
I'm not quite sure what to make of this one; the top of the form that's encased in the wood looks quite human, the bottom part less so.
I missed seeing 86 (Critter by Paul Thurloe, a sandstone representation of a crab which needed to be viewed from above) and 87 (Vehicle by Western Australian sculptor Jean-Marc Rivalland, an HZ panel van covered by welded sheet metal.) The latter of these two can be glimpsed in the top right hand corner of image 11218, just off the beach.
