20101012_5880 Error 99 Part II - The Wilting Base (Tue 12 Oct)

Pyrmont, NSW

As I mentioned yesterday I was testing the 24-105 with the 300D to confirm that it had a problem... and I did. Sort of. What bothered me is that the problem was so intermittent and you can hardly rock up to the service centre and say "Hey, this lens is stuffed some of the time". So I took it out for some further tests today.

I still can't get it to fail in a "do this and you'll get the error" way, but it's frequent enough that I can't see how the service centre won't be able to see it for themselves.

As with yesterday I was just shooting easy targets today. A lot of the shots failed, but this is one that turned out. Normally I might emphasise the burst of sunlight on the golden leaves, but looking at how many (more) hundred dollars in repairs? I think I'll focus on the wilting leaves at the back, sigh...

Helluvaway to celebrate finally getting to 6 figures in my total views number on my PBase home page.

So sad to have problems with this wonderful lens... but the capture of this daylily has turned out rather well with your 300D regardless. I hope you can sort out the problem!

Ouch - it's such a pain when things don't work when they should so it's probably small consolation that this is a wonderfully cheery image of those of us whose flowers are fading.

Equipment malfunction is a total pain, but you have made the best out of this shot: the colours are vibrant and beautifully contrasted, and the background is perfect for the shot.Roll on the next 100,000 to see more of your work!
