Melbourne isn't littered with widely recognised iconic landmarks, but one that was fairly widely known was Flinders Street railway station.
(Perhaps more so during the 70's and earlier when more people travelled by train, but I'll bet that if you buy a Victorian calendar from a tourist shop it'll more likely than not have a shot of Flinders Street station somewhere in it.)
This shot shows the façade of the station with its distinctive clocks showing the departure times for trains down the various lines; the Sandringham Line, the Williamstown Line, the Altona Line... I can't quite make out the time for the next departure on the Werribee line, at the far end.
The station can be seen in overview in image 3601.
