Lago di Como, or Lake Como, is only 25 miles or so north of Milan but almost 400 miles
north of Rome. Encamped in a ten dollar campsite, it was such a treat to sit at the edge of
the attractive lake at sunset, and watch the Villas come alive with twinkling lights,
like some distant fairy garden.
Here, in this northern triangle of lakes, is found the quiet refuge
of the wealthy. One of the more famous native sons of Como - a lawyer, writer, author and
philosopher - went on to fame and glory. His name : Pliny the Younger 63-113AD, of
Ancient Rome. I wonder if his feet trod these shores where my Camper Van was parked,
and as a boy, did he skip stones into the water. I'm sure he didn't have a better view.
