The starting-point for Chinese exports was the, at that time, imperial capital, of Xi’an (or Chang’an as it was then). This city was our official destination of our Silk Road trip (although we flew to Shanghai and left China from there). The first stop that we went in Xi'an straight from the airport was the famous city wall that was reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty. A group of local officials, complete with dancers were there to welcome a trade delegation from Hongkong. We were treated by the dances and official welcome ceremony ala Tang Dynasty as well.
