The Second Day of the Tour: New Ross and Waterford
+ On Wednesday, September 14, 2022, we left Dublin and rode through the beautiful Wicklow region before getting to the port town of New Ross which is the ancestral home of the Kennedy clan. Many people began their long journey from Ireland to America and other places during and after the potato famine. We visited the Dunbrody -- https://www.dunbrody.com/ --, a replica of a ship which transported some of those immigrants to the USA. Two guides explained how very perilous the six week voyage was.
In the afternoon we went to the Waterford Crystal factory and learned a lot about the making of some of the world's finest crystal creations. After that an entertaining guide, Jack, led us on a walk through historic Waterford, a harbor town founded by Vikings. According to Jack after 50 years of stealing and plundering they settled down and became politicians. And then we boarded the bus and got to our hotel here in Waterford, the Fitzwilton. To our surprise we ended up in one of the best rooms in the hotel. Luck of the draw. The room is spacious and at the corner of the building with a great view of the river flowing through Waterford a block away, a church across the street and the street below. We were only here for one night so we made some tea and enjoyed the moment before joining our fellow tourists for dinner at the hotel.
