Installation - Rally Brackets

With this gallery, I will try to illustrate the modifications and steps we used to install the Rally type mounting brackets and GT Scheel seat-rails in my 914-6 GT.

By the way, in case you didn't know, not all GT's used the Rally type brackets as these were designed for use in the Nurburgring https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22202357 and Monte Carlo Rally 914-6 GT race cars https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/22237400. For the more chassis punishing rally events, the feeling was that the factory stock seat-rail mounting brackets https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/88660129 failed to provide a sufficiently strong mounting point and they were prone to premature failure by becoming dissattached during a race.

After looking at some of these old rally racing car photos https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/87749344, you will probably agree that these Rally cars do take a much greater amount of punishment than road-racing cars. Here are a few more https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/87749346 -

The answer to this potential problem were these custom-made Rally brackets which offered some added benefits including; additional height adjustment at the rear of the seat (good for the shorter drivers) and a much stronger attachment method giving the drivers greater peace of mind when competing in these grueling events https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/87749341. In road-racing one really can't afford many of these types of incidents https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/87749338 (assuming you actually survive the first!).
