Red-shouldered Hawk

Breaks Park - Southwest VA

This hawk must have been feeling the coming spring. It kept calling and calling, as it circled overhead. Maybe it was trying to attract a mate.

Great photo (same for sequence of the foraging red-shouldered as well). A story you might appreciate: Several years ago I was serving as the interim pastor of the Three Chopt Prsbyterian Church near Richmond, VA. One Sunday about 7:30 AM or so I was arriving to prepare things for the early service amd heard this loud call. It was a red-tailed perched on the cross at the top of the building. Not being a good enough beirder to identiff it immediately, I walked around some to get a better view. It watched me, well, like a hawk! It was a spiritual experience, like being watched by God. It paid various visits during my nine months there, and I am given to understand it perches on the cross occasionally to this day. Cool.-----Yours, Rev. Bill Charles
