Your photos have helped identify the village weaver species , the white breasted , not the fully grown yellow. No doubt he will change colour in summer time. But he is persisting in building on top of the lighting on our verandah , without success and several times a day we have to sweep up after him !
Locally we call this species Serins.

Your photos have helped me identify a bird which persists in building on a precarious ledge on our verandah lighting.
It is your Village Weaver family , white breasted , next to the yellow bird. I presume he will become yellow as he grows up ! Locally these birds are called Serins and build hanging nests high up in trees .
My one here will not give up on a hopeless task and we have to keep the broom handy several times a day

I have an old rather out of focus bird photo that I took in Maurtius - it has a bright red head and a bright yellow body. It doesn't quite fit any of the photos I have seen of the Mauritius or Madagascar fody . I presume it is one of them but cant decide which. Could you please advise if I send the pic

We have been seeing a lot of these birds around our balcony. Great now to have the names. The bulbul sings every morning outside our room.

Love the bulbul bold bird raiding dinner tables in our dining hall, bold enough to sit on a shoulder looking for a scrap to eat

Zebra Dove - we have seen lots on holiday on East side of the island. They are usually in pairs and very bold.
