Boarding the LCM from the Thomas Wolfe

Normandy

The 91st Evacuation Hospital sailed from England on the Liberty ship Thomas Wolfe for Normandy on June 9, 1944. From the Thomas Wolfe the soldiers climbed down to the LCM which took them to the beach. The only Liberty ship surviving unaltered is at the Maritime Museum in San Francisco. The Jeremiah O'Brien is worth a visit if you are in San Francisco. LCMs are plentiful here in Alaska. They must have been built of solid stuff, because they are still working hard all along the Alaska coast.
