The population of Sarajevo was grateful for any help they got. They are amazingly patient people. But they could see the irony in the UN supplying them with plastic jugs so they could go to dangerous water queus and risk dying from artillery shells. This father and daughter were getting water from a truck which was delivering to the hospital. It was dangerous because the hospital was often shelled. My father was a doctor in WW2 and when I told him the Serbs were shelling hospitals he said he didn't believe me. "Even at the end of WW2 the Germans respected the medical corps," he said. "Are you trying to tell me the Serbs are worse than the Germans?"
