20050326 / Grommet

Carmel-By-The-Sea

I learned to respect the ocean here, getting stuck in a
rip-tide that could have drowned me 15 feet from shore.

I learned how to surf at this beach break, standing on a
stick for the first time-I walked on the water.

I learned to talk to the animals here. One flat day, paddling
around hoping for waves, I was engaged by the friendly, chirpy
chatter of a sea otter.

I've enjoyed countless sunsets here and shared the sound of
crashing waves with a friend on the other side of the country
through a cell phone.

Seeing this little grom having the time of his life reminded me of all of those 'firsts'.

Thanks for sharing your thought together with this beautiful photo.
I can understand how one became contemplative in the company of such serene beauty.

One of these day's I maybe convinced to part with the airfare, in the hope that I too could walk on water. I'd settle for taking this photo though.

This is so incredible, the reflection in the water from the sinking sun, the lone person walking along the beach and the darker color overall in this image. Your words are very touching and I think it is wonderful that you share your sunset with so many on Pbase. Voting.

chris.. you've certainly captured a feeling here - both with your photo and your words. The reflection in the water of the setting sun and person mimic one another and add peace to the day's end. So very serene..
