The tide came up as far as this and even further in the 40's,50's and 60's. Montague St and the High St junction flooded as well. Tide came up there through the drains.

Victoria Street and "the front" is all reclaimed land - so flooding has occurred for decades - the Castle was much nearer the actual seafront than it is today. But Climate change adds a further dimension...!

Might be a silly question but here goes… have these high tides that breach the promenade wall always been an occurrence or is this something that’s started happening in the last decade or two?
