I have enjoyed looking at the photos of Rothesay. My sister and I went to Rothesay Academy for a couple of years and we used to live in Albany Terrace next door to the once Rev Fulton opposite the pier. I was only 10 then and now 2, but that house always brings me fond memories as I used to go and walk to Rothesay Pier to meet my Dad who was on HMS Adamant. Wish I could return to that house, but now living in Devon.

I noticed a message form an old flat of mine Cheryl McLennan and was glad to hear she was alive and kicking downunder !!! Cheryl had spirit in abundance when I first met her at Napier College Edinburgh and although no longer residing in Rothesay she is a credit to the town and to Bute and obviviously still very much cares about her home surroundings. Hi Zak I was born and bred in Rothesay and your card was given to me by Jessmay when I visited her fruit shop last week while on holiday. I have only been home twice in 28 years but I think about Bute every day. You have really helped with my homesickness because I can now visit every day from my computer in Sydney and I no longer feel so isolated. Bute is BEAUTIFUL and I am very proud and excited that one day in the not too distant future, I will be able to call it my "home" again. Thank you for sharing your wonderful pictures, they are a credit to you and the island. Cheryl :)

The photos of Bute are absolutely fantastic and what a great idea to do this and give us folk that once lived and loved the island a chance to look back and see the places we once went to and enjoyed. I am a regular visitor to the site and my wife, who is a Kiwi and lived there with me for a while also says the same about your great site.We have been back in NZ for many years, but nothing compares to the variety of sights on Bute. Zak, your pics of Bute are superb. I used to go there as a kid twice a year between 1981-1986 and haven't been there since (shame on me). Bute is a beautiful island and I have so many fond memories of Scalpsie Bay, the cream meringues at Ettrick Bay cafe, the lovely walks and Zavaroni's fish & chips. If the sun's shining you can't beat Bute and your pics bring back all the memories. I intend on going back this year or next as it's one of those places I have to revisit. Keep up the excellent work.

My husband Alistair Macgregor was born and raised on Bute His dad had a newsagent shop at 60 HIgh Street We love the island and try to get there every year for a short visit with Step mom Its a lovely place Enjoy the photos Keep up the good work

Next time you are out taking snaps can you take one of Eastlands farm on Canada hill please,we used to stay there in the seventies when the cottage was divided into two.I believe it has been converted and renovated now? Cheers Alan

My Great Grandparents lived at 5 Mansfield place. My American grandma visited once a year and took Gran home to her house. Dr. Howie made many of visits to house for Great Gran and for me as a wee girl. His recommended hot tooties always did the trick.

not a memnber on pbase, but love the photos; bring back many memories of my childhood holidays on bute. My uncle and aunt still live on the island at albany terrace , and my grandafather was the GP on the island for 40 years and his surgery was at Battery place. We come over once a year to see my aunt and uncle and have a small family reunion, Nice to see the old favourites are stll there like the Kettledrun Cafe. but I miss the red crane that used to be situated on the samll pier for taking coal off the boats. I use to fish regularly off the pier before it was removed for cod and mackerel with cockles harvested at Port Bannatyne at low tide.Thanks for the graet photos. Graeme Howie
