A lighthouse was erected at the sea-end of the jetty in 1894, replacing the Port Germein Lightship. The lighthouse was manned until July 1917,
when it was replaced by an AGA flashing light. The lighthouse was re-established at its current site land-side of the jetty in 1975.
During its lifetime sailors and courting couples left messages written in pencil or chalk on the walls,
ceiling and cross beam of the lower level. Older residents have fond memories of courtship that began at the lighthouse.
