Our small holding paddock
Not so far to chase the horses or steers in this paddock. This little yard has a couple of stables and yards, and at the top of the paddock is our mini-arboretum. The direction this shot was taken is looking down the paddock from the arboretum through the gate and into the big horse paddock.

The lawnmowers in action
These are the 2 new steers Dick bought to keep the paddocks mown and manageable.

Out in the big horse paddock
This shot shows little Gemma having a bit of a mooch around while I'm there close by for safety. Gemma belongs to our 2nd daughter and is getting too old to keep pace with our little Flossie the Jack Russell pup. All the trees out here in this paddock are self-seeded with the exception of a few by the other gate (not in this picture). Its so lovely to see this paddock green again after the very long dry summer & autumn.

The gate to the big paddock
I'm standing on the pathway in the large holding paddock - it slopes away to the east and north. The trees in this paddock are all self-sown and about a decade or a bit more old.

Amongst the trees
We have a sort of mini-arboretum at the top end of a small holding paddock. There's very tall forest trees, and an understorey of native plants for the birds to nest in. We planted them all ourselves in this patch. When we moved here about 30 years ago we only had 6 original ancient trees in situ, we've planted hundreds since. Dick often plants left overs from his "Trees for Life" yearly project, so the native plants aren't always indigenous to the area. The area is also a graveyard for our deceased pets, its always been an area they loved. This particular shot is a very small area of the arboretum.

Ancient tree in the big horse paddock
It could be 200-300 years of age and its been missed by bushfires! Its halfway down the paddock near the neighbours fenceline and often used by our horses and steers as a place of rest on a hot summer's day. It doesn't afford much shelter in winter as the branches are up so high, I don't expect a koala would find the tree to its liking either.

Regenerating Scrub
Dick has been adding native plants to this fenced off area. The big tree is an original, the rest have been planted and nurtured by him. There is an electric fence to keep stock away and give the new planting a chance to grow.
