The General Store & Post Office.
We often call in here to post a letter - particularly cards as the shop is quieter
than a supermarket and larger post offices
and the owners friendly and obliging. We buy bunches of
Australian wildflowers here, they are farmed nearby and usually available at a
good price. I will continue in a couple of days time, we
are about to celebrate Mum's 98th birthday and will be
away for a couple of days.

The Bakery
This is the 2nd most popular shop in Clarendon, though it closes on Mondays, there
are always cars and bikes lining this part of the street the rest of the week.
When one enters the tiny shop, you find yourself amongst a crowd choosing something
to buy!

Back to the Pub
The most popular building in this little town is the local pub. I already featured
it a few days ago, but I rather like the angle in this shot, hope you do too.

A vacant block of land
I saw this while walking along the pathway, was quite a surprise. No way would
I walk onto the land for a close-up shot, there could be snakes living in that
derelict old shed! Those brambles (blackberries) seem to be growing along a
creek behind the old shed... another reason for watching out for snakes!

Rose-framed entrance
The roses caught my eye as I wandered along the pathway, a delightful display
of a well-known and loved rose.

Church/Chambers/Museum
Clarendon Bible Christian (Methodist) Church built in 1854.
After 3 local Methodist churches amalgamated in 1900 it became the local Council Chambers.
The Council amalgamated with the Kondoparinga Council at Meadows in 1935.
It is now the town museum

On the Horse Trail
Dick joined a group of horse lovers/riders many years ago and set up this
horse riding trail, you can see a sign in this photo. The little street is
quite steep and winding as is most of the side streets in this little township.
The town is only 6 ks from where we live, and many years ago Dick rode his horse
with another horse rider the 6Ks using back roads and yarded up the horses
in a friends paddock while they partook of a couple of beers at the pub
that I featured yesterday.

Royal Oak Hotel, Clarendon
Known by regulars as ‘the Clarry’, the Royal Oak Hotel is a country-style pub nestled in the historic
township of Clarendon in the Adelaide Hills. With open fires in winter and alfresco dining
throughout the warmer months, the Clarry is a favourite ‘local’ all year round.

Street Scene
Photo taken on a balmy autumnal day - a pleasant walk along part of the main street which
is a through road taking you to the wonderful wine district of McLaren Vale. I particularly
took photos of some of the housing and buildings that can be dated back to the time of
settlement in this area. Note the power lines are underground on the main street here.
More to follow throughout part of the month of April.
